When it rains

A PILE OF DOGSHIT FALLS ON YOU.

Img_2567

Friday night, 8pm and all is dark. It is lashing rain, huge heavy droplets just pounding down as you and your daughter share a pink bowl of fresh strawberries and sit on the floor by the window. Suddenly, you decide that the better thing to do is run through the torrents of rain, carrying your three year old so you can go to Petite Caspinka, eat more strawberries in the middle of the rainstorm and spy on the neighbors. Any good mom teaches her kids to spy early - it's the best avocation ever, requiring hours of sitting still and writing in a logbook rather than smoking clove cigarettes behind the compost pile.

When both of you have to pee, you pick your kid up again and race through the backyard, around the little picnic table, slipping a bit in a mud river. You arrive inside exhilarated if a bit wet. Quite wet, really.

A few minutes later, through the pounding of the rain there is a sickening CRACKKKK....CRASH. You go outside and find that the Root Beer tree is partially fallen exactly where you had been running while carrying your firstborn. It smashes the little pink table that you don't really like but don't want to throw in the dump. Some of you may recall that, why, just last week we had another tree fall. Nevertheless, I think this has to be a Glass Half Full moment, even if everything does seem to be going to hell lately. We definitely aren't hanging bird houses today.

And to add shit to the shingle, I actually cried at work today. I never cry at work - what the f&@k has my life turned into?! Ok, Pink - breeeeeath. The tree fell on that ugly assed pink table, not your daughter. Breeeeeathe. Inhale that clove cigarette...

Soooo glad you're both okay! These storms have been so scary. Chin up!

Hey Pink,

Years ago a huge tree fell in our front yard and literally flattenned my oldest sons first car which was parked in front of the house. talk about those scary imagined moments. Even he could see that it wasn't just about the dead car. Perspective does help but I am hoping you're going to get a break soon from the work grind. sounds like it's taking a tole on you. I'm amazed at all that you do. take care, k

Oh my gosh -- that is horribly frightening! I'm so glad that no one was hurt (except for the pink table.)

It sounds like you're having a rough time lately -- I'm sorry to hear it. If it's any consolation, I've been wanting to cry at work a lot lately!

Keep inhaling! Keep inhaling! That totally sucks but I am glad you guys are okay!!! Keep inhaling!

You need a break - you know what I mean?
Here in the UK we have not shit happening apart from bombs, storms, floods and a new Prime Minister.

yikes! Glad you are ok and also that the tree didn't land on Petite Casapinka!

Glad you are both okay.

And now you can buy a new picnic table. One that you like.

Breathe!

Still, it's horrifying because you get to recalculate all of your movements and 'if only' yourself to death. We have video tape of a tree almost falling on Mini Me at a nature trail.
Perhaps the table was possessed by a rogue druid and the Tree Gods were trying to smite it?

I think no job is worth crying over. Can you move to a different department or hospital? Switching jobs last year for me was a god-send. It was a major change but I am so much happier now.

Wow, I am so glad you guys are safe!

Seems like it might be time to take down some more trees because they really seem to be gunning for Petite Casapinka. I guess it's just too much loveliness for them?

ouch! esp when grown trees are so beautiful! poor tree. well, now you can shop for a new table and umbrella?

sorry to hear about work Pink... i used to do that when i started my last job... so i know it ain't nice.

How terrifyingly close! I actually scrolled back up to check the date on this post when I saw the first photo, thinking my feed reader might have fed me a post from the last tree-fall you had. Glad everyone's all right.

Glad you are safe and sound. Take yourselves to Mc D's for a Hello Kitty Happy Meal.

Wow, thank goodness y'all are safe. Is Petite Casapinka ok?

Hey Pink

I thought this stuff only happened to me. V reassuring I'm not the only one.

Love the blog by the way.

Nickey

Oh my word....I`m glad you are OK!!!!!!

--Was that an ash tree? They're notorious for losing limbs, "plop" like that -- before I had mine taken down last year, I always watched my back as I was bending over working in my garden. Glad you and daughter were safe inside when the limb fell!

Petite Casapinka is ok from the last tree episode, isn't it? Somehow I missed that post.

That sucks. :( That is something that would happen to me. Sorry you had to go through that,..what a mess.

YIKES!!! Hug that little one close and thank your lucky stars. I'm so glad you are both safe. Try to remember just the eating strawberries part.

I'm so glad you are both safe!

I'm glad you made it out of the tempest OK! It's been pretty stormy here in Chicago as well. Yesterday I was thisclose to getting struck by lightning...

By the way, I've been tagged, and I'm passing the torch to you...go to the link below for details if you're interested ;)

Oh what a story, Sorry about the bad luck with trees, If it makes you feel better, once I cried at work and couldn't stop, I had to go home, it was PMS I think, but everyone thought I was crazy, it still makes me laugh.

oh darling girl, so very sorry. That's lousy and more than a little I-saw-my-life-flash-before-my-eyes....

On the plus side, it makes for fantastic home fables and surely means that you were put on the planet to do something extra important. I am thinking like curing cerebral malaria....

PS I think you should upgrade from the clove cigarettes to something a little, ahem, stronger...:-)

Time for a vacation or a little retreat from the daily grind, no doubt, but the job's just so damn intense, sometimes a girl's just gotta shed a tear. That may be one of the reasons we don't have the CAD that the guys do.
The tree incident sounds hugely frightening!

Glad you and the kids are okay. That happened to my brother and sister and I when we were kids. We ran to the house right before a huge branch came crashing down where we had just been pretending to camp.
