Equals LOVE (plus most likely a bank account depletion)

Oh, and this runner. Guess we won't even talk about it (probably not great with a couple of kids around) but is it not the most succulent thing you've ever seen?! Makes me want to buy it and throw it in the attic until ol' Placido and his sister are grown.

I kicked myself for debating too long about this retro kitchen a few months back. I posted it and within hours people emailed me that the link was dead and they were sold out. Well, here it is for only $179 on Ebay with "Buy it Now."

I got this glass perfume bottle a few weeks ago at Anthropologie because I thought it would be perfect on my mirrored vanity which is now in our bedroom. Domino just featured the same bottle in their new issue, which always makes me feel like I might be on track in some small way.

Perusing Anthropologie's website today also yielded plenty of other summer finds, not meant to coordinate with anything other than my flights of fancy, but defintely reinforcing the good fortune of not having a nearby Anthro store to frequent.

Placido Crush

Setting the scene: Husband has been up for forty hours and is at the Social Security office submitting Junior's full name since he was unnamed for two weeks after leaving the hospital. He is VERY tired and phones me because he forgot how to spell Junior's middle name which also happens to be his father's name.

H: How do you spell his middle name again?

P: Honey, are you on crack?

H: I just get it confused - spell it one more time. (Pink complies.)

Pink: Hey Honey! (Zeroing in on how fatigued husband is) - Remember how I've always wanted to give our kids a secret middle name that they only discover when they go to get married, like this really cool secret identity?

Husband: Uh huh.

P: Remember how I wanted Juniorette's secret middle name to be "Firefly" and how you said it was dumb and NO WAY IN HELL?

H: Uh huh.

P: Well, I think Junior should have a secret middle name.

H: Very weary: "What do you want, how do I spell it?"

P: WHAT, REALLY?!?! Ok, do you have a pen? P.L.A.C.I.D.O.

H: Ok, see you at home.

?????!!!!!!!! That's it? I couldn't believe he just did it without an argument! Now our son's third middle name (yep, he already had two) is Placido after Placido Domingo whom I've had a crush on for donkey's years. His voice makes me weak in the knees and I actually had a poster of him on my wall in med school. I waited for hours at Covent Garden to score a ticket to "La Forza del Destino" just to be under the same roof.

My father thought it was the lamest thing ever to do to a kid but I am beyond thrilled - but shhhhhhh...don't tell Junior about his secret middle name. I'm almost embarassed to put this here but I've loved this recording for, like, twenty-five years now. I love the dorky conductor guy and how Placido puts his arm around John Denver (but don't watch unless you want to be mortified.)

Train Case

I'm glad that the luggage circling somewhere over our fine nation isn't this Lulu Guinness luggage or I might have sobbing fits. I just returned from the mist incredible college reunion and the weather was diabolical down the East coast last night. After circling around Philly for an hour in dark clouds I'm very glad to be alive. This after two hours on the tarmac in Connecticut! Luckily, my seatmate was also a white knuckle flier and aspiring photographer so we spent the entire last hour of our lives talking about Etsy and how she could start a shop. Thanks, Janet - I think we saved each other from ourselves.
